Toyota Parts Warranty: What Owners of Black Toyotas Need to Know (and Everyone Else!)

Toyota prides itself on the reliability and longevity of its vehicles, and that commitment extends to every part and accessory they offer. Whether you drive a sleek Black Toyota Camry, a rugged black Toyota Tacoma, or any other model in the Toyota lineup, understanding the parts and accessories warranty is crucial for peace of mind. This guide breaks down the essentials of the Toyota Parts and Accessories Warranty, ensuring you’re informed about your coverage.

What Toyota Parts and Accessories are Covered Under Warranty?

Toyota stands behind its Genuine Parts, whether new or remanufactured. These are parts either manufactured by Toyota or specifically approved by Toyota Motor Corporation. If any Toyota part or accessory proves defective due to materials or workmanship, Toyota will, at its discretion, replace the part or repair it. This warranty applies to parts purchased and installed in different scenarios, each with specific coverage terms.

Parts Purchases (Over-the-Counter or Online)

For Toyota Genuine Parts bought directly “over-the-counter” at a dealership or online from an authorized Toyota dealer, and then installed by a third party (not a Toyota dealer), a limited warranty is provided. This is a 12-month parts-only warranty from the purchase date. The exception here is 12V batteries, which have their own specific warranty terms detailed below. So, if you’re upgrading your black Toyota with genuine accessories and having them installed elsewhere, remember this 12-month parts warranty.

Service Part Warranty (Dealer Installed)

When you purchase Toyota Genuine Parts and have them professionally installed by an authorized Toyota Dealer on your Toyota or Lexus vehicle, the warranty coverage is even more comprehensive. You receive a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage from the installation date. Alternatively, if your original New Vehicle Limited Warranty is still active and offers longer coverage, this service part warranty extends to match that remaining period, whichever provides greater benefit to you. This is particularly beneficial for owners of newer black Toyota vehicles still under factory warranty.

Toyota Battery Warranties: 12V and Hybrid

Toyota provides specific warranties for different types of batteries, recognizing their critical role in vehicle performance.

12 Volt Battery Limited Warranty (TrueStart and True-2)

Toyota TrueStart batteries come with a robust warranty. They are warranted for free exchange for the first 24 months from purchase, regardless of mileage. This free exchange period extends to the remainder of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty if that’s longer. After the free exchange period, the warranty continues on a prorated basis up to 84 months.

True-2 batteries have a slightly different term, offering free exchange for 18 months from purchase, regardless of mileage, followed by a prorated warranty up to 60 months.

It’s important to note that the prorated portion of these warranties covers only the battery itself (based on MSRP) and excludes taxes, labor for installation, and towing services. Free exchange also excludes labor and towing for True-2 batteries. This ensures that even the battery in your black Toyota receives substantial warranty protection.

Hybrid System High Voltage Battery Limited Warranty

For Toyota hybrid vehicles, including popular models available in black, the Hybrid System High Voltage (HV) battery warranty is crucial. When an authorized Toyota Dealer installs a new HV battery (excluding commercial, fleet, or livery vehicles), it’s warranted for 36 months, unlimited mileage, from the installation date. Again, this coverage extends to the remainder of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty if it offers longer protection.

If an HV battery is not installed by an authorized Toyota Dealer, or if it’s installed in commercial, fleet, or livery vehicles, it falls under the standard 12-month Toyota Service Parts Limited Warranty.

Tires Limited Warranty: Handled by Tire Manufacturers

It’s important to note that tires on your black Toyota, or any Toyota vehicle, are warranted separately by the tire manufacturer, not Toyota directly. You should refer to the tire manufacturer’s warranty statement for specific details on tire coverage.

What’s Not Covered Under the Toyota Parts Warranty?

While Toyota’s warranty is comprehensive, there are specific exclusions to be aware of:

  • Mileage Alteration: Warranty is void if vehicle mileage is altered or cannot be determined.
  • Non-Genuine Parts Damage: Damage caused by non-genuine or unauthorized parts is not covered.
  • Over-the-Counter Labor: Labor for removing and reinstalling parts bought over-the-counter and self-installed is not covered.
  • Maintenance Services: Routine maintenance services like calibrations or alignments, and associated costs (labor, parts, lubricants), are not covered.
  • Improper Usage/Damage: Failures or damages from improper installation, misuse, accidents, negligence, modifications are not covered.
  • Incidental/Consequential Damages: Toyota is not responsible for incidental or consequential damages resulting from warranty breach (e.g., lost time, inconvenience, commercial loss).
  • Implied Warranties Limitation: Implied warranties are limited to the duration of the written warranty.

State laws vary, so some of these limitations or exclusions may not apply in all states. This written warranty is the only one authorized by Toyota, and remedies are limited to repair or replacement of the part.

Owner’s Responsibilities to Maintain Warranty

To benefit from the Toyota Parts and Accessories Warranty, you must take certain steps. If you believe a part or accessory is defective, return the part or the vehicle to any authorized Toyota or Lexus Dealer, depending on the part and vehicle type. Proof of original purchase is required to validate your warranty claim.
